Waddesdon U15s defeat Dinton U15s, Monday 9th July 2018
Over the last 6 or 7 years Waddesdon has fielded a strong team who have now progressed to U15s. over the years we have beaten most teams, but Dinton have always been a stronger team. Tonight, under a cloudless sky, at Dinton our Waddesdon boys and Amelie set the record straight.
Alex won he toss and elected to field first. Dinton’s opening pair batted very soundly, but Peter bowled out one of the pair in the 6th over. Will (wicket keeper) caught a magnificent delivery from Cameron, and Joshua bowled another batsman in the 16th over, and Giles bowled like he’d always been in the U15s. In the field Ed, Amelie and Oscar kept the pressure on the batsman. Dinton pushed the last two overs hard and reached 132 after 20 overs. We felt a reachable target with the hard outfield.
Alex swapped round the batting order, putting Joshua and Wilson in to take the full brunt of the opening bowling pair. A very impressive 38 before the first wicket gave us a real chance. Alex came in and hit 53 (retired) in very short period of time, now we’ve got a real chance. Two overs remaining 11 balls required, but we only get 3 runs in the over. 6 balls remaining, 8 runs required: dot ball, dot ball, dot ball, dot ball. 2 balls remaining 8 runs still needed. its getting dark, it getting very dark out there. Penultimate ball Peter drives a convincing 4, but we need another to win. But of course he delivers a classic cover drive, with fielders diving to save it from the boundary rope, it manages to bounce over. Team Waddesdon have done it. 7 years of waiting. Great commitment and professionalism from the entire team.
